Preschool

Children are eligible to attend preschool (kindergarten) for 15 hours per week in the year prior to starting school and are entitled to access 4 terms (1 year) of government preschool in the year before they start school.

There are two intakes during the year.

  • Children who turn 4 years old before 1 May are eligible to start preschool at the beginning of the year.
  • Children who turn 4 years old on 1 May to 31 October can commence preschool through the mid-year intake at the start of term 3 of that year.

We offer

  • 2 full days (Mon and Tues) in the first 2 terms of the child’s kindergarten year then increase to
  • 3 full days (Mon, Tues and Wed) for the remaining 2 terms.

Session Times:

  • Monday to Wednesday 8.30am – 3.00pm

Extended early morning care is available for $5 per session (8.15am start).

Extended care is negotiated with the Kindergarten Director.

Support Services

If you or the staff have concerns about your child’s development we are able to call on the DECD Support Services for extra assistance. These include:

  • Special Educators
  • Speech Pathologists
  • Social Workers
  • Psychologists
  • Bilingual support

These professionals work with the educators to provide an individual educational program for your child and support for children with special needs.

Lunch care

A lunch care program is provided at Netherby Kindergarten. Children bring their own lunch and eat in the sheltered alfresco dining area. The Educators sit with the children, and lunch and snack times are used to develop conversational skills with the children, as well as to promote healthy eating habits. The lunch care program attracts a fee, because extra Educators are employed to supervise the program. The lunch care program, also, enables higher Educator to child ratios which enables us to extend our program to experiences such as local walks, camp fires, and additional learning resources and most importantly time to focus on each children’s individual learning and development needs.

What?

Playgroup enables children to become familiar with the learning environment, developing their sense of belonging and makes the transition to Kindergarten smoother.

What?

Playgroup is a great way to meet other families within the community and form relationships with the Kindergarten Educators.  It is open to everyone and is very relaxed and welcoming to new families.

Playgroup provides children the opportunity to engage with our natural play spaces, kindy chickens and other animals from our Nature Education program. We recommend bringing your gumboots!
